An introduction to Garden Soup

25 April 2012.
Today marks a special day.
It is the day my wife and I officially started this blog, Garden Soup.

I wanted to have this blog since a long, long time ago. In fact, I think it goes back to around January 2009, when we first started to take a serious interest in growing our own herbs and flowers on our balcony. Since that time, we gradually added more and more plants to our balcony, trying out increasing types of herbs and veggies. And in October 2011, we joined a community garden in Canberra in Mitchell.

It has been six months since we started gardening there, and it has been a very fun and fulfilling experience, growing so many new things. It's amazing how the above veggies can appear after only three months. Compare the above photo with the one below, taken in the same spot just 3 months earlier!

Just three months, and you can get lush spinach, lettuce, endives, snow peas, kai lan, bok choi, kikuna, and much more. This patch is only 20m2, a quarter of the entire plot.

Our growing, cooking, and eating experiences over the last 3 years has been a significant part of our lives. I have written some personal entries about this in my my personal diary, but never have we published it online. The first task in setting up this blog will be to catch up. Luckily, it won't be hard because we have many a huge collection of photos :) Over the coming weeks or months, I will gradually add older photos to this blog, and write briefly about them.

That's all for now! Feel free to post in comments if you'd like to share your gardening experiences!
